The Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya has installed the Presbyterian Church of East Africa Secretary General Peter Kania as the organization’s Local Patron.
PCAK is a professional body registered by the registrar of societies and mandated to oversee registration of all criminologists, training, welfare and professionalism in the field of criminology in the Country.
The association’s motto is “Crime Must Fall”
The ceremony was led by PCAK founding chairman Munene Mugambi at PCEA headquarters in Nairobi during a workshop on corporate governance.
Members were taught about fraud investigations, risks identification and mitigation.
The training was conducted by Jane Mugo who is the CEO of Association of Certified Fraud Examiners- Kenya Chapter.
Mugambi said the role of the church in fighting crime cannot be ignored.
“It is time the church partnered with criminologists to fight crime.” Mugambi said.
Reverend Kania said the church has a duty to deter crime through preventive approach.
“As a church we employ preventive measures as opposed to combative approaches. “he said.
The cleric said the church has introduced theological education in prisons across the country.
He said this has transformed inmates to better people.
“We have elders in our church who are ex-convicts.” The cleric said.
He added that the church leaders are opinion leaders who have a duty to guide and make the society a better place for humanity.
Kania said the church and its institutions will partner with PCAK for mutual benefit.
He said PCAK will be airing programmes for free on Kirk TV that is owned by the church to enlighten the public on crime matters.
