A Nairobi based businessman has urged Kenyans to continue helping the needy even after the war against Covid-19 pandemic is over.
Shahid Yakub says donating to the poor should be a continuous process.
The 28-year-old said you do not need to be rich to donate.
“Philanthropy is all about doing something good for the sake of seeking pleasure from the Almighty. You do not need to donate millions and billions to become a philanthropist, it’s not about money, it is about feeling the pain of others.” he told Hot News.
This year Yakub,a managing director at Moto Moto Africa Ltd partnered with other organizations to distribute food to the poor in Nairobi,Muranga, Naivasha, Kilifi, Garsen, Kitui and Moyale.
He said his organization and several others including Speedtech, Majmuatulkhairat, Al-Shahid Trust, Al-Hakeem trust, and Ahmed Yakub Trust have so far donated food and other items to 3,500 beneficiaries.
Yakub said he has been helping the needy since he was a young boy, a virtue he learnt from his father.
“I want to concentrate on transforming lives. It is not about how much money I can give, or gather from well-wishers, it’s about how much constructive time I can dedicate in successfully completing a cause.” Yakub said.
He urged the youth to be creative to earn a living and stop engaging in crime and drug abuse.
“If you want to know what God has prepared for you, look at what you have done for others. Payment and reward are from the Almighty.” he said.
Yakub said he is a member of several professional organizations including the Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, American Society of Industrial Security, among others.
