Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has urged Busia residents to embrace the Building Bridges initiative to end injustice in Kenya.
Speaking during Mzee Okinda’s burial at Murende village, Busia County on Saturday, Raila said the injustices encountered by the late Okinda where his 500-acre farm in Kitale was grabbed during post-election violence is a pointer to why BBI needs the support of all Kenyans.
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said Busia residents will back the BBI report.
He said Busia MCAs will adopt the report.
Ojaamong echoed sentiments by other leaders including Senator Wetangula, Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua, Siaya Senator James Orengo, Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, and former Minister Fred Gumo that BBI should be embraced by all Kenyans.
He said BBI will offer solutions to problems afflicting Kenyans.
Raila told Busia Senator Amos Wako and his Bungoma counterpart Moses Wetangula to pursue the late Mzee John Melti Okinda’s 500-acre farm saga to have his family compensated.
“Apart from Mzee Okinda, other people who lost their land under similar circumstances included Justice Lutta and Ezekiel Minjo. The Building Bridges Initiatives wants to end such injustices to save Kenyans from such inhuman tendencies,” Raila said.
The former PM noted that Kenya is flooded with hatred and wondered “when the rains started beating us.
Senator Wetangula said he will petition the Senate to have the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya summoned to prevail upon the national government to compensate Okinda’s family.
In his defense, AFC MD Mr Lucas Meso who was present at the funeral, said he is aware of the case but urged the former PM, Bungoma and Busia Senators to take up the matter.
