Residents of Kehancha have said some area Police officers have in a twist of events secretly returned a logbook, mobile phones and other documents they had confiscated from a resident on Friday morning.
This is after Hot News highlighted his predicament on Saturday.
The officers allegedly locked Kerati Muriri at Kehancha police station before extorting Shs 200000 from him.
The four officers who claimed to be attached to Anti Terror Police Unit reportedly demanded the money from Muriri after they stormed his house to search for a gun.
“On Saturday night when I opened the gate to my house I saw a suspicious red bag inside my compound. I called the police and it turned out that my logbook and phones were inside the bag.” Muriri said.
Muriri narrated to Hot News how two officers one driving the station’s official vehicle while the other was driving his (Muriri’s) car drove him to an ATM to withdraw money to “bribe” them.
Transactions seen by Hot News indicate Muriri withdrew cash from an ATM and from a bank agent at Isebania on Friday afternoon.
Some other officers from the same station allegedly robbed Shs 10,000 from another resident John Kerongwe on Tuesday at a hotel next to the station.
He alleged Police locked him in a hotel store before fleeing with the loot.
Muriri said he reported the matter at Kehancha police station under OB number 18/23/3/2019.
Speaking to Hot News on phone earlier, Migori county police boss Joseph Nthenge promised to investigate the incidents.
“Kindly send me the OB numbers so that I can follow up the matters and establish the truth,”he said.
A Police officer privy to the incidents said Anti Terror Police Unit head office in Nairobi has dispatched a team of officers to the border town to investigate the matter.
Muriri expressed fear for his life and called on the director of criminal investigations George Kinoti to intervene.
