For 18 years, Shaffie Weru called Lion Place “Home” and Radio Africa was “Mum and Dad”.
Many employees came and left -but Shaffie enjoyed the “good times” at Radio Africa.
However, bad luck is seeing Shaffie the “bad boy” and others referred to him as the “Good boy” being sacrificed after EABL cancelled adverts that raked in millions for RAL.
For years, Shaffie has enjoyed a cordial relationship with his bosses.
The East African Breweries Limited (EABL) said on Saturday it was pausing advertising on programs associated with Homeboyz Radio presenters, Shaffie Weru, Neville and DJ Joe Mfalme in support of investigations into disparaging remarks made by the three on morning drive show, The Lift Off.
EABL said in a statement it expressed its dismay to Radio Africa Group (RAG), which controls Homeboys Radio, about the conduct of the presenters, who on Wednesday, March 24 made remarks that implied to support acts of gender violence on women.
The Communication Authority of Kenya also fined RAL shs 1 million.
However, RAL has gone ahead to dismiss Shaffie Weru.
Through his lawyer Nabil Orina, Shaffie wants a total of shs 21 million in damages.
He was working for Homeboyz Radio which was acquired by Radio Africa three years ago.
Shaffie has worked for Radio Africa for 18 years.
He wants one month’s salary in lieu of notice which is Sh682,500.
He is also demanding 12 months’ salary for unfair termination (Sh8,190,000) and gratuity (Sh12,285,000).
The former Kiss 100 presenter wants his demands met in 7 days (April 6), failure to which he has threatened to move to court.
Shaffie said he received his termination letter on the night of March 26 at around 11 pm.
He was on the same day suspended for making “inappropriate and insensitive remarks”
Shaffie has also accused the company of not according to him a fair hearing.
The decision to let him go, he says, was made by a member of the organization who acted as both the judge and accuser.
In fact, Shaffie says, his dismissal was a “crafty scheme” by the company to fire him to avoid paying him the terminal benefits.
