Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has called on Deputy President William Ruto to sort out his political differences with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking to K24 TV Punch- line, Sonko said that if the two leaders sorted out their differences, Kenyans will move ahead.
“If they can sit and reconcile, it will be good. I plead with Ruto to sit with Raila and iron out their differences,” Sonko said.
Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga fell out over 8 years ago.
They first fell out over the Mau evictions after Ruto accused Raila who was the Prime Minister of steering the eviction of residents of Mau.
Their relationship deteriorated further when Raila attempted to sack William Ruto who was Agriculture minister from the Cabinet.
Although Raila was in a power sharing deal with former President Mwai Kibaki – Kibaki was the appointing authority and hesitated to fire Ruto and Sam Ongeri who was education minister whom Raila had fired.
Ruto’s allies and cronies have always referred to Raila as the Lord of poverty and (mganga )“medicine man”.
Raila and his cronies on the other hand have always referred to Ruto as the “High Priest of corruption.”
Raila and Rutos relationship has been characterized by bitter public exchanges, outright hatred for each other and constant name calling.
