A South Sudanese National accused of forgery and other crime related cases has been detained again by a Kibera court magistrate.
This is after court prosecutor Christine Torome urged the court to detain him at the Kilimani police station so that he is availed at the Milimani law courts where he is facing other criminal charges.
The court also heard that the man is linked to fraud cases in Uganda and Australia and he is being sought by the detectives.
The prosecution told the court moments after Toni Taban Suliman was charged alongside Johannes Ochieng Bolo before Kibera senior principal magistrate Charles Mwaniki on Monday.
The charge sheet says that the two are accused of conspiring to commit a felony by stealing alcoholic drinks from Jay wines on diverse dates between February 9 and 13 in Nairobi.
Suliman was again charged with making a chequebook valued at Sh1, 000 and belonging to Trackem Investments.
The two were also charged with stealing the NCBA bank chequebook.
They jointly faced the charges of issuing fake cheques, contrary to the Penal Code.
They allegedly issued a Sh413, 00 fake cheque.
On a separate count, Suliman was also charged with obtaining Sh210, 000 from Sarova Stanley after he received full board services, which he reportedly failed to pay.
He also faces a charge of resisting arrest.
Through their defense lawyer, Elkana Mogaka, they denied the charges.
The prosecution heard that Suliman was a foreigner but he had not given any identification documents.
He arrived in Kenya using an Australian passport, the court heard.
“The accused persons are wanted at Kileleshwa police station, Mombasa and Nyali police station over a criminal offence,” the prosecution told the court.
Lawyer Mogaka downplayed the claims terming them unjustified and misleading
Mogaka told magistrate Mwaniki that there were no documents from Interpol showing the suspect was wanted for other crimes.
“No document proves that Interpol was pursuing my client and therefore I urge the court to dismiss the application to deny my client bond,” he said.
He told the court that Suliman’s passport was wanted in court and he is diabetic.
He produced a medical form from The Nairobi Hospital.
Mwaniki directed the matter to be mentioned on Thursday for bond ruling and more directions.
