South East Alego Chief Joseph Ogutu Onjala;s family held a thanks giving ceremony on Sunday.
The event was held at the Chiefs home in Nyangoma Kogelo.
The service was presided over by Father Chrispin of Barding Catholic Church and Father Joseph of Holycross Ramba.
Leaders from other denominations, Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs and members of the public attended.
Last week, MP Samuel Atandi was arrested after he assaulted the Chief.
Several constituents have also initiated the process to recall him.
Siaya County Commissioner Michael ole Tialal condemned the MP for the heinous act.
Ole Tialal said the Chief represents the President at the location level and he deserves respect.
He said the National government is not going to allow that to happen again-the fact that you are an MP, does not give you permission to assault anybody.
“The named leader has in the past committed such like criminal activities. He invaded the TSC director’s office and he assaulted the secretary in the office. He embarrassed my officer, the DCC Siaya Sub County Mr Sawe in a public function where other leader were. He publicly abused the officer who was on duty. These unbecoming behaviors cannot be tolerated,” Ole Tialal said.
The Chief was hospitalized after the injuries.
He recently recorded a statement with the police.
The Commissioner said according to investigations, Atandi and his bodyguards stormed the Chiefs home at 6pm on Wednesday last week assaulted him, causing him head and chest injuries.
Ojala alleged Atandi had accused him of hiring youths to disrupt a Wednesday event presided over by the MP.
According to local media, earlier Wednesday, the legislator commissioned the renovation of classrooms at Unna Primary School, a function which aborted after youth disrupted the ceremony.
After word got around that Atandi had attacked the local chief, leaving him unconscious, tens of youth pursued the MP, who rushed to the nearby Nyangoma Police Station for refuge.
While at the station, the MP, however, recorded a statement, saying his function had been disrupted by rowdy youth, who wanted to harm him.
It remains unclear how the MP managed to get out of the police protection.
Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga condemned the incident.
“I have talked to the Commissioner and the law should take its course. Shame on him! Just because you voted for him so he should attack people?” Rasanga posed.
The residents who have started the process to recall the MP said according to article 104 of the constitution, they have the right to recall their MP and are collecting signatures.
On Thursday morning last week, tensions flared after tens of boda boda operators gathered in Siaya Town to protest against Atandi’s unexplained “escape” from Nyangoma Police Station.
