A tour operator has been charged in Court after obtaining Sh 426, 000 from a businessman promising him five air tickets to South Africa.
Peter Dennis Bwire who is the proprietor of Dido Tour and Travel Agents was on Thursday charged with obtaining the cash from Paul Muthama Maina.
He allegedly conned Muthama on December 13 last year in Ngara, Nairobi.
He is said to have received the money after falsely pretending he was able to secure five air tickets.
Maina had been given the cash by his brother to book the air tickets for his family that intended to travel to Johannesburg for a vacation.
He sought services of a travel clearance agent who took over the processing of visas for the five family members.
The agent referred Maina to Bwire who was to handle the ticketing and hotel bookings.
Maina visited the South African Airways offices at International Life House on Mama Ngina Street in company of Bwire who made bookings and gave the complainant five tickets.
On December 19, the complainant escorted his brother’s family to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where he presented the tickets to be issued with boarding passes only to be told they were not valid.
Maina was informed that Bwire had only made notifications for intended booking of tickets but had never made any payments for the tickets.
Bwire denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji.
He was freed on a cash bail of Sh 200, 000.
The hearing of the case starts on May 25.
