Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o has confessed that the County prequalified some ‘rogue’ contractors who may not be able to implement various projects.
Through his Deputy Dr Mathews Owili, Professor Nyong’o warned that the rogue contractors will not however, be paid.
Speaking during the burial of Priscilla Ojija Ogoda, mother to former Kisumu Senatorial aspirant Ocholla Ogoda on Saturday, Dr Owili reiterated that until they complete their work, they will not get any payment.
“We assure residents of the County government’s commitment in sealing loop holes that aid corruption,” said Dr Owili.
He announced that the County government was in the process of rolling out key infrastructural projects, strategically anchored in Governor Nyongo’s ten-point development agenda.
The Governor’s statement comes in the backdrop of numerous complaints by members of the public over his non-performance.
It also comes amid infights at the Kisumu County Assembly over the scramble for positions.
Governor Nyong’o has been accused of making unsubstantiated overseas travels.
“He just globe-trots the world without any tangible evidence of investors,” said a resident, Peter Onyango.
Prof Nyong’o has been under fire for vowing to put up a multimillion statue of first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, father to ODM leader Raila Odinga in Kisumu town.
This has however been opposed by several residents who say it won’t add any value in their lives.
“How will the Oginga Odinga statue help me? Will it add Unga in my house?”asked Justin Ouma a resident of Kisumu.
